The food offerings near Lincoln Center have gotten pretty stellar in the past few years. Bar Boulud, The Smith, and Rosa Mexicano have been some of my standbys, but I’m happy to add a new spot to the rotation: Lincoln Center Kitchen. This American spot is actually inside Lincoln Center, which means catching a bite before seeing my beloved New York City Ballet is very convenient.

LCK’s mac and cheese is a little out of the ordinary. Called the “Bacon Blue,” it features — you guessed it — crispy shards of bacon and a wonderfully salty blue cheese infused sauce. Now, generally speaking, I don’t go for macs with this many ingredients. They’re often over-salted and a little one-note in terms of the flavor. But this one stays just on the right side of rich. The sauce, as you can tell from the photo, is very thick and cheese-forward (as opposed to tasting just like a bechamel). The bacon is a nice textural addition and also doesn’t take center stage (get it?) in the dish, just adds to the overall savoriness. In short, it’s a must order.

The best part about this place? It turns out that Executive Chef Daniel Anconetani used to work at The Plaza, where, once upon a time, he cooked for my wedding! This mac and I were meant to be, what can I say?
